Expires:No;;882034 FXUS64 KLIX 062028 AFDLIX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service New Orleans LA 328 PM CDT Sun Apr 6 2025 ...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM, MARINE... .SHORT TERM... (This evening through Monday night) Issued at 250 PM CDT Sun Apr 6 2025 The overall systems we saw firmly entrenched last week have finally broken loose with the surface frontal passage last night and earlier today. A deep, positively tilted, upper level trough tied to low pressure over eastern Canada is rotating through the central Gulf coast. It will be slow to do so, however, because the upper high pressure in the western Atlantic is being slow to cede its space to the low pressure. Because of this slow movement, the entire vertical profile of the frontal boundary will probably not pass the area until later tomorrow. This will probably leave some lingering clouds through late Monday night and perhaps some light showers in deep southeast LA and coastal MS through tomorrow afternoon. Current temperatures/dewpoints just to our west over the Atchafalaya Basin, reflective of the post frontal air mass, are in the mid/low 50s. We can expect overnight lows tonight in the low 50s, highs tomorrow only reaching into the mid 60s, and lows tomorrow night in the mid 40s. Winds have shifted to northwesterly and will continue to shift through tomorrow night to northerly, generally between 5-10mph. Through the night Monday into Tuesday morning we should see clearing skies and wake up to sunshine. && .LONG TERM... (Tuesday through Saturday night) Issued at 250 PM CDT Sun Apr 6 2025 From Tuesday onward through the end of the period we will see upper level high pressure dominating the weather pattern. Through most of the work week we can expect sunshine, highs in the 70s, and lows generally in the upper 50s to low 60s with a slight warming trend through the week. The notable exception to this is Monday (mentioned above) and Tuesday nights when we have a cold night, typical of the frontal passage we just experienced, with lows in the mid 40s. By Friday a deep, sharply curved trough does form to our north that may bring some rain, followed by more nice weather for the weekend. Stay tuned as that pattern resolves itself through time. && .AVIATION... (18Z TAFS) Issued at 1227 PM CDT Sun Apr 6 2025 Frontal boundary passing eastward through the area has cleared all terminals but KGPT. Winds are out of the northwest at 5-10kt, excepting KGPT which is still predominantly southerly at 15G25kt. Boundary should clear KGPT in around 20Z. Scattered TSRA is still prevalent across the area even behind the boundary and will last through the night decreasing to SHRA in the early morning hours and ending by sunrise. Current conditions are MVFR to IFR due to low CIGs associated with the frontal boundary and are expected to continue through the period and improvement above FL030 could continue through 18Zish Monday. && .MARINE... Issued at 335 AM CDT Sun Apr 6 2025 Winds have shifted to northwesterly over most of the marine waters and should complete the change by this evening. Wind speeds have dropped off behind the frontal passage, but it will take a bit longer for wave conditions to relax. Will leave the Small Craft Advisories in place as currently configured. Likely to need a period of Small Craft Exercise Caution headlines, especially over the open coastal waters, Monday and perhaps into Tuesday. Quieter marine conditions are expected for the second half of the workweek. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
