A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM EMERGED FROM THE GREAT LAKES REGION ON MONDAY AND TRACKED NORTHEASTWARD, CROSSING NORTHERN NEWFOUNDLAND LATE TUESDAY. THE SYSTEM BROUGHT A WINTRY MIX OF PRECIPITATION ACROSS MUCH OF THE ISLAND, ALONG WITH STRONG SOUTHERLY WINDS OVER SOUTHERN AREAS. SNOW ARRIVED IN SOUTHWESTERN NEWFOUNDLAND ON MONDAY AFTERNOON AND THEN SPREAD ACROSS THE ISLAND BEFORE TRANSITIONING THROUGH ICE PELLETS, FREEZING RAIN, AND EVENTUALLY RAIN AS TEMPERATURES ROSE MONDAY NIGHT INTO TUESDAY. THE HIGHEST RAINFALL AMOUNTS OCCURRED OVER SOUTHERN NEWFOUNDLAND. THE FREEZING RAIN COMPONENT IS GENERALLY ESTIMATED TO HAVE TOTALED BETWEEN 2 AND 5 MM FOR MOST LOCATIONS AND WAS MOST PROLONGED IN THE SOUTHWEST AND EXTREME NORTH.
