SUBJECT: Upcoming change to flood stage for the streamgage At Walton,
NY On the West Branch Delaware River (WALN6)

Effective at 1200 Coordinated Universal Time on Friday, May 2, 2025 the
National Weather Service will update the Flood and Action stages for
the streamgage located in Walton, NY on the West Branch Delaware River.

As of this date, flood warnings and briefings will reference the new
flood thresholds. This change is part of a recent re-evaluation of the
floodplain, including consideration of flood mitigation work completed
by the Delaware County Soil-Water Conservation District. These changes
will put future flooding into a more appropriate context with watershed
behavior, and improve warning and forecast services per National
Weather Service flood definitions. Local officials, and other users of
flood information at this location, are encouraged to prepare any
software, documentation or standard operating procedures prior to the
effective date of these changes.

The following stages will be updated:

   1. Flood stage becomes 11.5 feet above Gage Zero.
The previous flood stage was 9.5 feet above Gage Zero.
   2. Action stage becomes 9.5 feet above Gage Zero.
The previous action stage was 7.5 feet above Gage Zero.
