...FLOOD WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 AM EDT TUESDAY...

* WHAT...Flooding caused by an ice jam is occurring.

* WHERE...A portion of west central Maine, including the following 
  county, Somerset.

* WHEN...Until 800 AM EDT Tuesday.

* IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying 
  and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Depending on 
  ice behavior, any release of the ice jam could result in sudden 
  rises of water, leading to a rapid flooding situation.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - At 1005 PM EDT, Local Fire Services and Emergency management
    reported ice jams along the Carrabassett River that are
    leading to unexpected water rises. The main concerns are for
    low lying portions of Embden to Anson where ice jams have
    been reported. The flood threat will continue into the
    overnight hours as streamflows will continue to rise from
    earlier rain and snowmelt.
  - Avoid flooded roads
  - Some locations that will experience flooding include...
    Madison, Anson, Embden and New Portland.


PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood 
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the 
dangers of flooding.

Water levels can rise and fall quickly in the vicinity of ice jams. 
Those with interests along rivers and tributary streams should be 
alert for rapidly fluctuating water levels in the vicinity of ice 
jams. Forecast values represent ice-free flow.
